Gretel

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

Breed: European Shorthair Color: Red-White Gender: Female Spayed: Yes Born approx: 19.06.2024 Gretel came to us at the animal shelter as a stray cat. Initially, she is somewhat reserved, but anyone who gives her the necessary time and calmness will quickly experience how open, cuddly and affectionate she can be. She loves being petted, enjoys snuggling a lot and is happy with every attention you give her. As an outdoor cat, Gretel likes to explore the world outside, sniffing curiously around every corner and enjoying discovering nature. At the same time, she also appreciates the cozy moments on the couch or her favorite spot in the apartment very much. Gretel gets along very well with other cats and would be very happy about a home with a playmate of similar age. Whoever adopts Gretel gets a cheerful, cuddly and curious female cat who conquers the hearts of her humans in no time - whether cuddling, playing or small exploration trips through the garden. About Gretel

What life with Gretel looks like

Gretel is a young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierschutzverein Rosenheim in Rosenheim.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gretel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gretel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Rosenheim handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gretel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gretel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Rosenheim will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gretel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gretel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Rosenheim early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gretel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
