Adopt Tiger

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 4 years

Tiger – a tomcat with broken trust tomcat Tiger came to us at the animal shelter several months ago. What he must have experienced before, we can only imagine – but it must have been terrible. Tiger was severely abused, so badly that he lost a leg and it had to be amputated. Not only his body, but also his soul bears deep wounds. Tiger is afraid. Great fear. And this fear sometimes makes him attack everything and everyone – other animals, but also us humans. Not always, there are often calm, good moments. But there are triggers that we don't know about, and then he reacts out of nowhere with scratching and biting. To make sure he has no pain, we did everything: MRI, thorough examinations – without any findings. Tigers behavior is not a pain problem, it's trauma. Even a loving attempt at a foster home failed. There, too, Tiger suddenly attacked his foster mom without any apparent reason. How sad that is. How helpless you feel when you know that this animal is not evil – but simply has unimaginable fear. Tiger obviously has not had good experiences with people. He does not attack out of hatred, but out of pure insecurity. Still, there is a small light: Our cat reader visits Tiger when she can, and reads to him quietly and patiently. These moments show us that there is much more in Tiger than his fear suggests. However, the animal shelter offers few retreat possibilities that he urgently needs. We try to shield him as best as we can to give him at least some peace. Tiger hurts us infinitely. And yet, we sincerely wish that one day he will still lead a relaxed, beautiful cat life – in safety, without fear, without stress. He deserves it more than anyone. But maybe there are people who are just right to offer a broken soul a loving home. born 28.6.

28.6.2021, kastriert

About Tiger

What life with Tiger looks like

Tiger is a large adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierschutzverein SOM e.V. (Tierheim Pfaffengrün) in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tiger, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tiger?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein SOM e.V. (Tierheim Pfaffengrün) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tiger on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tiger if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein SOM e.V. (Tierheim Pfaffengrün) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tiger already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tiger isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein SOM e.V. (Tierheim Pfaffengrün) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tiger and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
