Titou

Kangal · Male · Young · 2 years

Titou is a male Kangal dog born in 2024 who came to us from an animal-unfriendly environment. He previously lived in a messy household, which severely limited his physical development. His muscles and overall condition must now be built up step by step. However, with good care, sufficient rest, and adapted exercise, the young dog has the best conditions to develop positively. Despite his difficult start in life, Titou has retained his friendly nature. He is very open, affectionate, and playful with his caregivers. He also greets strangers kindly and without aggression. At the same time, he shows great uncertainty in the face of many environmental stimuli. New situations, traffic, or a lively environment clearly unsettle him, which is why he seeks people who can give him security and patiently introduce him to the world. Titou lived with a female German Shepherd in his previous home. Therefore, we can well imagine that he would again move in as a second dog - ideally to a confident, calm, and socially secure dog, to which he can orient himself. An existing first dog could help him develop more self-confidence and better navigate everyday life. For Titou, we wish a quiet, rural home with as few environmental stimuli as possible. Life in a lively city center or a very busy residential area would currently overwhelm him. People with patience, empathy, and a joy in showing a young dog the world step by step are the right companions for him. As a Kangal, Titou belongs to the herding dogs. Due to his breed, he brings characteristics such as independence, vigilance, and a close bond with his family. His new people should deal with the special features of this impressive breed and be willing

About Titou

What life with Titou looks like

Titou is a large young adult kangal dog waiting at Tierheim Ludwigshafen in Ludwigshafen/Rheim.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Titou, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Titou?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Ludwigshafen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Titou on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Titou if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Ludwigshafen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Titou already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Titou isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Ludwigshafen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Titou and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
