Adopt Tommy

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

These lovely seniors (brother and sister) are looking for a home together. The owner of these two treasures has passed away, so they ended up in the shelter. They are very close to each other, so they are looking for a final home together! In their previous home, they were not used to much. They were never taken out on the street, so they only knew a piece of land on the farm. Here, they sometimes go for walks, they find it exciting but this is getting better each time. Tommy is a bit more shy than Tilly. Tilly is a bit more adventurous and dares to go towards things a bit better. Tommy follows. They are mostly housebroken in the shelter. We don't know if they can live with cats or other dogs. These old ones do not belong in a kennel and we hope that someone can offer these two sweethearts a nice home. These old ones don't ask for much anymore, a few walks a day, a warm bed, rest and of course attention. Stichting Dierenopvang Hengelo Zilverstraat 30 7554 NH Hengelo 46 .75.18.812 RSIN:

About Tommy

What life with Tommy looks like

Tommy is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Dierenopvang Hengelo in Hengelo.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tommy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tommy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenopvang Hengelo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tommy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tommy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenopvang Hengelo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tommy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tommy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenopvang Hengelo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tommy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
