Trilby

Border Collie · Male · Adult · 4 years

Trilby is a very playful chap who absolutely LOVES his toys! He’s especially fond of the squeaky kind and will proudly parade around with them, showing off to his people pals in the hope it’ll entice them in for a game of tug! Playing fun games with Trilby is a great way to build a bond with him. He’s also keen to utilise his clever brain while working on his training or keeping busy with dog-friendly enrichment activities! Once he’s built up a relationship with you, Trilby is a true sweetheart and is bound to make for a very loving and loyal companion to the right family. If you have a peaceful home and a heart ready to invest in this sensitive, intelligent boy, Trilby could be the perfect match for you. Trilby is looking for adopters who are within 2 hours from our Shoreham centre BN43 5LT. Trilby is a striking young lad, around four years old, who came into our care as a stray. While his past is a mystery, we've spent time getting to know him and discovering what kind of home would help him truly thrive. This boy has energy to burn and a sharp mind, but he's also a bit unsure of the world around him. He's looking for a calm home in a peaceful, rural setting—away from the hustle and bustle of busy streets and too many other dogs, and he will need to be the only pet at home. Trilby finds noisy or crowded areas overwhelming and struggles when he sees other dogs, so a quiet countryside life would suit him perfectly. He’s eager to learn and responds well to positive, reward-based training. With patient guidance and consistency, Trilby has the potential to grow into a wonderful companion. A private, secure garden would be a huge bonus for him for safe off-lead time where he can let loose in his own space. He'd enjoy calm walks in quiet areas where he can take things at his own pace and build confidence. Trilby may be able to live with children of secondary school age who are confident with larger, boisterous dogs.

About Trilby

What life with Trilby looks like

Trilby is a extra-large adult border collie dog waiting at Dogs Trust Shoreham in Shoreham by Sea.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Trilby, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Trilby?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Shoreham handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Trilby on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Trilby if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Shoreham will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Trilby already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Trilby isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Shoreham early rather than rehoming privately; they know Trilby and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
