Poppy

Pomeranian · Female · Senior · 11 years

Being a little bit shy, Poppy would be best in a home with children aged 14+, since she'd thrive in a calmer environment. She would love to find her dream adopters, that are happy and confident to work with her helping to be brave and face her fears. Poppy would be happiest in a more rural home environment where she is the only pet in the home, with access to quieter walking areas that aren't heavily used by other dogs. She is a really sweet, cuddly girl with so much love to give, who just needs some support to help her tackle the big wide world! Poppy is an 11 year old Pomeranian with a gentle, sensitive nature, who is looking for a home with patient adopters who can give her lots of cuddles and confidence. She can sometimes find situations a little bit scary and overwhelming, so would benefit from a quiet home in an area without many dogs. Poppy is looking for a lovely retirement home; she enjoys being close to her people, happily soaking up fuss and affection, and she’s also very good at letting you know when she’s had enough by taking herself off for some quiet time. She would love to spend her golden years with a patient, loving family. On walks, she can nervous of strangers and some dogs, so would love a home with a garden where she can decompress and play with her favourite people.

About Poppy

What life with Poppy looks like

Poppy is a large senior pomeranian dog waiting at Dogs Trust Shoreham in Shoreham by Sea.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Poppy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Poppy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Shoreham handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Poppy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Poppy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Shoreham will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Poppy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Poppy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Shoreham early rather than rehoming privately; they know Poppy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
