Tristan

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 3 years

Mixed-breed Tristan—dream dog—awaits his chance. Tristan arrived at the animal shelter in April 2025, around two years old, together with Bosco. To this day, the two share a kennel and provide each other with support in this challenging situation. Tristan is a friendly, well-balanced, and people-oriented male dog who absolutely loves going for walks. He walks beautifully on a leash, calmly interacts with his surroundings, and remains unfazed by cars, other animals, or unfamiliar situations. He thoroughly enjoys human company, looks forward to short training sessions, and eagerly sniffs around in nature. He has also shown remarkable friendliness and composure when interacting with children. Tristan gets along extremely well with other dogs. At the shelter, he’s already lived harmoniously with various male and female dogs and gets along splendidly with his current kennel mate, Bosco. During his daily brief periods of free-run time, he takes the opportunity to move around, explore his environment, and enjoy socializing with the other dogs. At an adoption event in May 2026, Tristan once again demonstrated just how wonderful a dog he is. He greeted visitors warmly, relished every petting, and spent the day calm, affectionate, and full of joy. Yet despite winning everyone over with his sweet nature, no one came forward to offer him a home—and so he had to return to his small kennel afterward. Tristan is a marvelous companion who simply wants to be there and share in his people’s lives. Instead of discovering the world, this young dog spends his days behind bars, waiting to finally be seen. All he needs now is one thing: people who will give him the chance to have his own home and show him just how beautiful a dog’s life can be. Click here for Tristan’s video. Click here for Video 2.

About Tristan

What life with Tristan looks like

Tristan is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tristan, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tristan?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tristan on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tristan if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tristan already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tristan isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tristan and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
