Adopt Troya

Female · Kitten · 4 months

Troya is a 4-month-old kitten that won't be up for adoption until she is fully recovered and we know how she will fare in her life. We received a report on December 31st that a cat had a injured paw, which she dragged. On January 1st, these people came to get her at our request. It's not a paw, but a displaced vertebra that has caused damage to her spinal cord. For now, she drags herself around, but she is improving and gaining strength in her legs. She is already using the litter box on her own, before she needed us to empty her bladder manually. She is a completely affectionate cat and loves to rub her head. Another thing she has is that she has lost part of one of her ears, but it's not serious.////////////////////// UPDATE MARCH 22, 2020 Well, what to say about Troya... She has been with us for over a year since she was picked up on January 1, 2019. Since then, she has been at the veterinary clinic, where she is treated wonderfully and is undergoing her rehabilitation. The attached photo is her physiotherapist's report. We still have a battle ahead with her, and any help is good, as it costs us around 120€ or 125€ per month, depending on our expenses for that month. And of course, we are still looking for a family for this super fighter!!

About Troya

What life with Troya looks like

Troya is a puppy/kitten cat waiting at Defensa Felina in Spain.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Troya, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Troya?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Defensa Felina handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Troya on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Troya if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Defensa Felina will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Troya already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Troya isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Defensa Felina early rather than rehoming privately; they know Troya and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
