Adopt Trufa

Mixed Breed · Unknown

One of our most imposing and also most beautiful dogs at the animal shelter is our Trufa, named Truffle. Not only does her gleaming black fur recall this culinary and expensive delicacy, but also her refined and noble character. Truffle’s nature is marked by both robustness and steadfastness, as well as a touching shyness and refined reserve. The female dog wags her tail hesitantly as soon as one of our shelter staff members approaches. Her eyes plead: Please stroke me, please notice me. Although I am large and impressive, I have a delicate, juicy heart that longs for love and affection. We know Truffle’s history: she came from a cage where she spent her early years in a senseless and comfortless existence. Of course, we do not place any of the dogs we trust in cage-holding. The dogs should finally arrive where they belong, in a secure and loving home. A home where they are cherished and respected, where time is spent with them, where they are given ample exercise and mental stimulation. As for exercise: our little Truffle Trufa had no idea what walking on a leash was. After initially finding the harness and leash a bit strange, she quickly understood their meaning and showed significant progress after a short time. Of course, the shelter staff lacks the time for proper leash training. That is why it is still expandable. Even a dog bed in the new home will first be admired by Trufa from all sides before she makes herself comfortable in it. With an XXL chew bone, one can surely make Truffle very happy. By Truffle’s side, we wish for people who can score with steadfastness and with loving upbringing. People who are aware that Trufa still has to learn a few things. People who are as considerate as we are used to from this gentle giant.

About Trufa

What life with Trufa looks like

Trufa is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Trufa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Trufa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Trufa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Trufa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Trufa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Trufa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Trufa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
