Adopt Tuca

Mixed Breed · Unknown

At this point, we would like to introduce you to the wonderful Tuca. Don't let her age bother you, because you really wouldn't notice it. Tuca is active and athletic like a young dog. She runs around the shelter yard with her friends, taking huge leaps, and can't get enough of her newfound freedom. Now, an animal shelter isn't exactly a place where a dog is truly free, but at least Tuka's living conditions have improved, and we hope to find her a nice home. Before you learn more about Tuka's story, we want to make it clear: she is a Malinois, with all the excellent qualities that this breed brings. Malinois are model students in dog training classes, and Tuca has already performed them with great skill. For a Malinois to feel comfortable in their skin, they need a healthy portion of physical and mental stimulation. These dogs want to learn—and they want to please. They bond with their human, are absolutely loyal, and true. If you have experience with this breed or have always been enthusiastic about them—read on. Other dogs don't necessarily need to be by the intelligent female dog's side. She gets along well with male dogs, at least for wild running and racing… That Tuca would rather have her own space is not her fault. After her first owner gave Tuca to a friend—she was already trained—this person then placed the female dog in a doggy daycare. Tuca was never picked up again. The costs were covered for a year, and that was it. Tuca (and with her, many other dogs) grew older and older. After years of inadequate rather than proper care, the female dog was in a pitiable state. Fortunately, the owner of the doggy daycare contacted an animal rescuer, who attempted to find homes for at least some of these forgotten dogs. This animal was surrendered to the shelter.

About Tuca

What life with Tuca looks like

Tuca is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tuca, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tuca?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tuca on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tuca if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tuca already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tuca isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tuca and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
