Adopt Tunce

Female · Young · 3 years

A stray cat last summer was brought to a house on the Aizkraukle side along with her kittens. The initial agreement was clear: the kittens would be taken to the shelter, but the mother would be taken back after being spayed. However, life made its own corrections... As soon as the entire family was handed over to the shelter, the "nice" rescuers called back an hour later saying, "Just have her spayed, but we won't take her back!" So Tunce stayed at our home. Initially, she was pretty shy and feral - a typical wild country cat that avoided people. Thanks to our volunteers who never stopped sitting by the pen, slowly gaining the cat's trust. Although Tunce is still not the bravest or most social cat at the shelter, we know she can become a beloved member of a family. We should expect that after being moved to a home, she may withdraw again at first, but once the adjustment period passes, Tunce will open up. She is suitable for adoption in a family without small children and people experienced in cat care. Why the name Tunce? When the cat got sick, she had to be given medicine, but for this feral cat, giving her a pill every day turned into an "impossible mission." We searched for cans where we could hide the bitter herb, until we discovered the secret - everything, even if it contains a pill, disappears quickly if it's tuna. So the cat got her name - Tunce.

About Tunce

What life with Tunce looks like

Tunce is a young adult cat waiting at Labās Mājas in Riga.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tunce, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tunce?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Labās Mājas handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tunce on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tunce if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Labās Mājas will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tunce already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tunce isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Labās Mājas early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tunce and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (LV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
