Adopt Tury

Mixed Breed · Female

A red beauty with bat-like ears and a snout that almost glows in the dark, a fun machine, always on the move, playful and cuddly - all of this describes our one-and-a-half-year-old (as of 04/2023) Tury. However, this was not always the case. When Tury was found in Huelva last September, the now cheerful female dog had been reduced to bone and skin. Apparently, Tury had been hit by a car and could no longer feed from the garbage cans that still serve as the primary food source for street dogs in Spain. Without any will to live, the injured girl, who was then not yet a year old, wandered the streets, and would probably not have survived much longer if the animal welfare workers from Puntanimals had not found her and immediately brought her into the care of their small facility. Tury is a completely different dog today. She has many friends, two- and four-legged, with whom she loves to run around all day. The funny playmobile is always first in line when volunteers get ready for a walk and is friendly to every visitor. Nevertheless, Tury's chances of finding a home in Spain are barely good - and it will probably not be easy to find a family for the energetic princess outside of Spain either. Why? Well, Tury is a Podenco lady ... But let us say this: the Podenco is a running-loving hunting dog and it can take a long time before a member of this breed can be let off the leash without concern, but this is not a problem that only affects Podencos (especially since it also depends on the character of the individual dog, as with any breed) and there are plenty of other ways to give the Podenco enough exercise. Dog sports, playing in the garden, also running alongside a bicycle, jogging, and much more are excellent alternatives. On the plus side, the clever Spaniard has many points that are far more interesting. The Podenco is usually a very calm and balanced companion in the house. It does not tend to bark or overprotect, moves almost silently, and loves cuddles above all. As a confident working dog, most learn quickly how to stay alone without embellishing the furnishings out of boredom or adding extra holes to the family's shoes. We are therefore looking for people who want to start the adventure of bat-ears without preconceptions. And because Tury is a real athlete, her humans should also be correspondingly active and enjoy being outdoors.

About Tury

What life with Tury looks like

Tury is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tury, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tury?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tury on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tury if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tury already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tury isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tury and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
