Tyra

European Shorthair · Female · Adult · 10 years

Tyra Born: April 2016 Gender: female Breed: European Shorthair (EKH) Color: white, black, and gray Neutered: yes Vaccinated: yes Outdoor: yes Location: Peine About me: I am a 10-year-old, confident and very independent female cat. I am an outdoor cat and enjoy having my own rhythm. I need a lot of freedom and retreat options and want to decide when I allow closeness and petting. I am generally curious about adults, but not a typical cuddly cat. If something becomes too much or I feel pressured, I show it clearly. In such situations, I can also scratch or bite. I currently live with our little son. Mostly I avoid him. However, it has already happened that I scratched him when the petting became too much. Since my family is expecting another baby, my humans have therefore decided that a quieter home without small children is probably better suited to my needs. My desired home: I am looking for a quiet home with people who understand an independent cat and leave me my boundaries and my freedom. A household without children would probably be best for me. Since I am an outdoor cat, a home with the possibility of outdoor access would be ideal. My family does not want to just give me up, but find a home where I can feel comfortable in the long term and where my needs are understood and respected.

About Tyra

What life with Tyra looks like

Tyra is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierschutzzentrum Ribbesbüttel in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tyra, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tyra?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzzentrum Ribbesbüttel handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tyra on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tyra if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzzentrum Ribbesbüttel will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tyra already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tyra isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzzentrum Ribbesbüttel early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tyra and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
