Adopt Tyra

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Gender: Female Size: shoulder height ca. 40 cm, 15 kg Tyra is a cautious female dog who builds trust with patience and love, and wants to explore the world. In June 23, a call for help was made by tourists on the island of Santorini, Greece, as they found a litter of 9 puppies on the beach. A community helper went to collect them and brought them to the small shelter that the community had set up next to the local landfill. The little ones quickly integrated into the dog pack living there, but unfortunately, 4 puppies fell ill with Parvovirus and passed away within a short time. The others developed well and could now be microchipped and vaccinated. What they now urgently need is a real home with people who love and value them. Tyra is one of the puppy girls; she was allowed to travel to Germany with a flight attendant and is now in a foster home. Tyra is rather short-legged and has a slightly longer body. Otherwise, she is a cautious, reserved female dog who has only known the shelter so far, no house, no vacuum cleaner, no radio/TV, no grass under her paws, no traffic or noise. In her foster home, she is now being introduced to everything gradually. If you would like to continue showing Tyra all of this, with enough time and patience, and also the necessary financial means to adopt a young female dog, then contact us, Tyra could soon explore the world with you! We thank Mrs. Miriam T. C. for taking over the rescue sponsorship. Tyra can be visited in her foster home in Langenselbold. Report from Tyra's foster home in January 2025: Tyra came to me in June 2024 for her 3rd foster home. The many changes did not do her well. Her positive development on the first foster home was again gone. It had to start all over again to win her trust. It took a very long time and still does. Tyra is not a cuddly dog and probably will not become one. But she aligns herself with her person, and she is also happy when he comes home. Occasionally, she also gets a friendly nudge or is invited to play. She is certainly not an "beginner dog" and is not suitable for families with children, but needs trusted people, and a confident-only dog that can teach her that she can handle the situations that scare her. More dogs are looking for a home... Oscar is friendly and open not only to people but also to other dogs. Mia San wants a quiet dog bed for herself. Maya wants her own home. Milly has been waiting for her people for so long.

Es erging im Juni´23 ein Hilferuf von Touristen an die Gemeinde auf der Insel Santorini/Griechenland, sie fanden einen ausgesetzten Wurf von 9 Welpen am Strand. Ein Gemeindehelfer ging, um sie einzusammeln und brachte sie dann in die kleine Auffangstation, die die Gemeinde neben der örtlichen Müllhalde eingerichtet hat. Die Kleinen integrierten sich schnell in die dort lebende Hundeschar, nur leider erkrankten 4 Welpen an Parvovirose und starben binnen kurzer Zeit. Die anderen entwickelten sich prächtig, konnten inzwischen gechipt und geimpft werden. Was sie jetzt dringend brauchen, ist ein richtiges Zuhause, bei Menschen, die sie lieben und wertschätzen. Tyra ist eines der Hundemädchen, sie durfte jetzt mit einer Flugpatin nach Deutschland reisen und ist in eine Pflegestelle eingezogen. Tyra ist eher kurzbeinig und hat einen etwas längeren Körper. Ansonsten ist sie eine eher vorsichtige, zurückhaltende Hündin, die bisher noch nichts kannte außer der Auffangstation, kein Haus, keinen Staubsauger, kein Radio/TV, kein Gras unter den Pfoten, keinen Straßenverkehr und -lärm. In ihrer Pflegestelle wird sie jetzt behutsam mit allem vertraut gemacht. Wenn Sie gerne Tyra das alles weiterhin zeigen möchten, genügend Zeit und Geduld, aber auch die nötigen finanziellen Mittel haben, eine Junghündin zu adoptieren, dann melden Sie sich bei uns, Tyra könnte schon bald mit Ihnen die Welt entdecken! Wir danken Frau Miriam T. C. für die Übernahme der Rettungspatenschaft. Tyra kann in ihrer Pflegestelle in Langenselbold besucht werden. Bericht aus Tyra’s Pflegstelle vom Januar 2025: Tyra kam im Juni 2024 zu mir auf ihre jetzt 3. Pflegestelle. Diese vielen Wechsel taten ihr nicht gut. Ihre positive Entwicklung auf der ersten Pflegestelle war wieder dahin. Es musste wieder ganz vorn begonnen werden ihr Vertrauen zu gewinnen. Es hat sehr lange gedauert und dauert noch an. Tyra ist kein Schmusehund und wird es wahrscheinlich auch nicht werden. Aber sie orientiert sich an ihrem Menschen, freut sich auch wenn dieser nach Hause kommt. Gelegentlich bekommt man auch einen freundlichen Stupser oder wird zum Spielen aufgefordert. Sie ist sicherlich kein „Anfängerhund“ und auch nicht für Familien mit Kindern geeignet, sondern braucht Bezugspersonen, und einen souveränen Ersthund, die ihr vermitteln können, dass sie die Situationen, die ihr Angst machen, regeln können. Noch mehr Hunde suchen ein Zuhause... Oscar ist nicht nur Menschen, sondern auch anderen Hunden gegenüber freundlich und aufgeschlossen. Maya möchte endlich ihr eigenes Zuhause haben. Mia San möchte endlich ein ruhiges Körbchen für sich. Milly wartet schon so lange auf ihre Menschen. jQuery(document).ready(function($) { $('-studios-carousel-elementor-91a277c').owlCarousel({ itemClass: "tailwag-carousel-item", onTranslated: tailwagDisplayPrevNav91a277c, // breakpoint from 0 up // breakpoint from 768 up // breakpoint from 1025 up function tailwagDisplayPrevNav91a277c(){ $("-studios-carousel-elementor-91a277c").addClass("tailwag-carousel-left-arrow-on"); }

About Tyra

What life with Tyra looks like

Tyra is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Hunde in Not Rhein-Main e.V. in Bad Vilbel.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tyra, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tyra?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Hunde in Not Rhein-Main e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tyra on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tyra if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Hunde in Not Rhein-Main e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tyra already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tyra isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Hunde in Not Rhein-Main e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tyra and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
