Tyson/Petey

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

VERMISCELLENATION HELP: TYSON IS CURRENTLY AT A foster home AND CANNOT BE VISITED AT THE animal shelter!! Description from the foster home: In the first few days, a dog showed clear signs of being overwhelmed by himself and his environment. It seemed that he had hardly been exposed to environmental stimuli and likely had very limited experiences interacting with fellow animals. In the first two weeks, he reacted to unfamiliar situations with strong, sometimes exaggerated barking behavior as well as impulsive leash behavior, such as jumping on the leash. This behavior can be seen as an expression of insecurity and lack of stimulus processing. Current status: Tyson/Petey is house-trained, can stay alone for about 2–3 hours without any problems, and shows a very playful nature. He has a pronounced, confident character and tends to question set boundaries. Therefore, he requires people who can act confidently, calmly, and consistently, and who remain clear and fair in their actions. In the household environment, he increasingly manages to calm down, especially when initially supported with targeted guidance, such as clear place assignments. Both in dealing with people and fellow animals, Petey requires consistent guidance. Currently, he often shows little distance and can be pushy towards other dogs, especially towards insecure or yielding dogs. He quickly recognizes uncertainties or lack of clarity, both in people and dogs. However, he behaves respectfully and accepts boundaries when encountering dogs that communicate clearly and unambiguously. In group situations, he can currently still be easily swayed by dynamics, which can manifest in hectic and unstructured behavior. However, with appropriate management and training, a good development is to be expected.

About Tyson/Petey

What life with Tyson/Petey looks like

Tyson/Petey is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Aachen in Aachen.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tyson/Petey, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tyson/Petey?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Aachen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tyson/Petey on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tyson/Petey if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Aachen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tyson/Petey already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tyson/Petey isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Aachen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tyson/Petey and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
