Adopt Lupo

German Shepherd · Unknown · Senior · 12 years

Lupo originally came to the animal shelter as a stray dog, so his background is unknown. In such cases, we always need a bit of time to be able to describe our new residents' personalities. The agile DSH mix was born around 2014 and is very active and athletic but also tends to get hectic. It seems that during his formative phase, Lupo was only exposed to a limited range of environmental stimuli; cars and tractors in the forest, people with walking sticks, or even fluttering kites initially threw him completely off balance. Nowadays, he usually takes such encounters in stride, but his new owner should still remain attentive and keep everything in view. Lupo was briefly rehomed for a short period, but it turned out in everyday life that he was not willing to accept limitations from every family member. If someone he does not accept tries to impose restrictions, he will create threatening space for himself. Therefore, Lupo is suitable only for a 1- to 2-person household, and there should be no children, despite how he often presents himself like a sweet, silly lamb at the fence. He is quite receptive to cuddles, which also help initiate the essential quiet periods he needs. Lupo requires time and patient, consistent owners to continue accepting the leadership role of humans.

About Lupo

What life with Lupo looks like

Lupo is a senior german shepherd cat waiting at Tierheim Baden-Baden in Baden-Baden.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lupo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lupo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Baden-Baden handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lupo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lupo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Baden-Baden will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lupo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lupo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Baden-Baden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lupo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
