Adopt Ulysse

European Shorthair · Male · Young · 1 year

Ulysse arrived at our shelter due to behavioral issues. His owners, lacking the time and energy needed to address his educational needs, found themselves overwhelmed by certain daily situations, leading to several biting incidents in context. Ulysse is a young dog who struggles to manage his emotions, particularly in situations of constraint and frustration. At home, he has already bitten twice when certain things were forbidden. Outdoors, he also exhibited aggressive behaviors towards other dogs, especially uncastrated males, with whom he quickly sought conflict. However, Ulysse can also show a completely different side when he feels secure. Very close to humans, he quickly becomes a real little clingy with his reference people. He appreciates presence and contact but can develop a strong attachment, sometimes translating into excessive jealousy. Regarding his compatibility, Ulysse cannot live with cats, which he dislikes entirely. Cohabitation with other dogs could be possible but must be tested at the shelter and evaluated on a case-by-case basis. The presence of uncastrated males, however, must be excluded, as Ulysse does not tolerate them and has already bitten in this context. Ulysse knows some basic obedience commands like sit or down, but everything will need to be relearned from the beginning to give him a clear, consistent, and safe framework. On walks, he seems to enjoy outings, even if they remain complicated today: he pulls a lot on the leash, listens little, and reacts to other dogs as well as to cars. Note: this animal can be reactive.

About Ulysse

What life with Ulysse looks like

Ulysse is a young adult european shorthair dog waiting at Perwez) in Sans Collier.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ulysse, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ulysse?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Perwez) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ulysse on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ulysse if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Perwez) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ulysse already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ulysse isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Perwez) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ulysse and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
