Adopt Uma

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 20 years

Uma is a very beautiful, affectionate female dog with her reddish-brown coat, bushy tail, and cute dark button eyes. Her appearance has something of a fox. Yet unlike a fox, she has not enjoyed freedom and nature so far. Uma is a very kind and brave dog who is fighting to return to a life that will finally be beautiful and worth living. We want to actively support her and very much hope that she will soon be able to live a beautiful, dog-appropriate life with sniffing games and walks in nature. But until then, there is still a long way to go... and she needs the company of loving and understanding people in a dog-friendly environment. Very little is known about Uma's past. She was probably rescued by animal protectors from a neglected apartment where too many animals lived under disastrous, inhumane conditions. Uma was malnourished, extremely thin, and in a very neglected physical condition that a dog should never reach. So it was lucky for her that she came to the animal shelter and there was medically examined and regained her strength. Now she is ready to take the next step on her journey and may travel to a real dog home. We are looking for that for her. Uma has lived with other dogs and cats. She is very friendly, social, and adaptable. She is somewhat reserved towards people, which should not be surprising. She does not know a leash. Therefore, she does not know walks, gardens, or anything that makes a beautiful dog life. Uma looks forward to people in a quiet household who give her time to adjust, do not pressure her, are understanding, and are simply there for her. She will learn to love being petted and in the long run, be able to accompany her humans in everyday life. A soft, clean dog bed, good food, and a place where she belongs and can stay forever is a big gift for her. Developing a team with Uma carefully will be a wonderful task. © 2006-2024 by Tierschutzverein Europa e.V. - All rights reserved

© 2006-2024 by Tierschutzverein Europa e.V. - All rights reserved

About Uma

What life with Uma looks like

Uma is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Uma, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Uma?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Uma on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Uma if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Uma already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Uma isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Uma and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
