Uma

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

Gesund, vaccinated, neutered Born December 2018 (approx.) Height 65cm, Weight 45 kg Uma – an intelligent, friendly, self-assured, and loyal dog girl with a balanced and peaceful character. The volunteer who lovingly cares for Uma says about her: Uma is very affectionate and cuddly. She loves all people: men, women, and children – and is always kind, friendly, and affectionate. She values attention very much and is delighted by every caress. As soon as someone comes to her, she immediately shows her affection: she snuggles, licks hands, hugs, and clings to them. All she needs is to be near a person. She is just as happy to receive anyone who is willing to give her attention. At the same time, she is unobtrusive – if she notices that I am busy, she can entertain herself. She plays and interacts happily with children, takes their hugs and games with enthusiasm, and treats them gently. Due to her size, however, I do not allow her to play with the smallest children, as I fear she might accidentally knock them over, although she is very cautious and gentle with children. Walks with Uma are very pleasant. She walks well on a leash, adjusts to my pace, and responds attentively to my words. She loves long walks, is quite energetic, loves to run, rub against trees, and lie in the grass. She especially loves water and could swim for hours on a hot day. Whatever she is doing, her attention can be easily and quickly directed to someone. Uma is really very easy to train; she knows the commands "Come" and "Sit," walks nicely at my side, understands gestures and moods quickly, and learns fast. She is loyal and brave; with Uma, I feel completely safe even late at night in a dark park. I know that she does not show fear, even in a real dangerous situation. She adapts easily to any situation – in the park, in the city, at the vet – and behaves calmly and composedly. At the vet, she was highly praised: she remained calm during nail trimming, examination, blood draw, and vaccination. Uma is smart and barks only for a good reason. She masters car rides without problems. Unfortunately, Uma does not like most other dogs; apparently, her heart belongs completely to humans, and there is no room for other dogs. Naturally, she lives in the animal shelter with other dogs and gets along well with calm dogs, especially with male dogs. She does not like small dogs that bark or jump on her. Therefore, she wears a muzzle at the vet, which she is accustomed to. Uma is ideal for an active family with children, as well as for a quiet, relaxed life with older people, as a single dog, and preferably without cats. We are sure that this heartwarming girl will be a loyal, loving friend to every family member and bring a lot of warmth and joy to their new family.

About Uma

What life with Uma looks like

Uma is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Russische Tiere in Not e.V. in Gladbeck.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Uma, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Uma?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Russische Tiere in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Uma on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Uma if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Russische Tiere in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Uma already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Uma isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Russische Tiere in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Uma and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
