Adopt Ursel

European Shorthair · Female · Adult · 7 years

Our pretty Ursel (female, neutered, born around 2019) is one of the quieter cats at the animal shelter. New situations and unfamiliar people still make her very anxious, so for now, she prefers to retreat and observe what's happening around her. Ursel is very shy and needs people who understand that building trust takes time. When things get too overwhelming for her, she can also set clear boundaries. However, our cat petters report that with patience, she has already allowed herself to be stroked – a small but very beautiful step. Ursel gets along well with other cats, so we can imagine her as a second cat. A confident, friendly first cat could even help her settle in more quickly. For Ursel, we wish for a calm home with outdoor access, where she can be given the time she needs to feel at home. People with patience, empathy, and without high expectations will surely experience small, special progress with her. Who will give this cautious velvet paw the chance at a new life? If you would like to meet her, please click on the "Request Cat" button and fill out the online form completely. This way, we will have all the relevant information for an initial conversation.

About Ursel

What life with Ursel looks like

Ursel is a large adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Ludwigshafen in Ludwigshafen/Rheim.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ursel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ursel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Ludwigshafen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ursel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ursel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Ludwigshafen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ursel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ursel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Ludwigshafen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ursel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
