Uschi

Mixed Breed · Unknown

The approximately 14-year-old, neutered European short-haired cat Uschi is looking for a quiet and understanding home where she can settle in at her own pace. Uschi is one of those cats that do not immediately approach people, but first observe from a distance and need time to build trust. New situations, unfamiliar noises, and changes initially unsettle her, so her future humans should above all have patience, calmness, and empathy. Uschi is not a typical affectionate cat that actively seeks closeness or constantly looks for attention. She decides herself when she wants to allow contact, and shows her affection more quietly and reservedly. Someone looking for a clingy couch cat will probably not be happy with Uschi - but someone who enjoys giving an older animal security and appreciates small progress in trust may find a special companion in her. Since Uschi probably previously experienced outdoor stimuli and freedom, we would like her after a sufficiently long acclimatization period to have the opportunity to go outside again in a quiet and low-traffic environment. A home without hustle and bustle, preferably without small children and with fixed structures, would make the start much easier for her. She needs people who can accept that she values her retreat areas and decides herself how much closeness she wants to allow. Despite her rather reserved nature, Uschi could enjoy the company of a nice, calm and preferably similarly aged cat. A relaxed, soft-pawed cat that gives her a sense of security and allows her enough space could help her adjust. Naturally, it would be a prerequisite that the chemistry between the animals is good and there are sufficient places to retreat. Considering her age, it should also be taken into account that older cats sometimes need a bit more rest and veterinary care.

About Uschi

What life with Uschi looks like

Uschi is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. in Dormagen.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Uschi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Uschi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Uschi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Uschi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Uschi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Uschi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Uschi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
