Adopt Ushka & Urwen

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Ushka & Urwen, the invisible ones from our shelter are two inseparable siblings who are searching for a very particular family: a family that is patient, understanding, and ready to give them all the time they will need. Arriving at the shelter with an immense fear of humans, they still spend the majority of their time hidden at the back of their transport crate. Even sometimes, one wonders if they are really there because they are so good at being discreet. Urwen, the entirely black cat visible in the first photos, is the one who expresses his fear the most strongly. He does not let anyone approach him and can spit or try to attack when someone gets close. These reactions are not acts of gratuitous aggression but true defensive behaviors facing a fear that seems deeply rooted. He constantly remains on high alert and is very frightened by human presence. Ushka, visible in the last photos with her pretty little white spot on her neck, shows a bit less reactivity but remains an extremely fearful cat. Very impressed by her environment, she prefers to stay hidden and observe from a distance. Behind her discretion also hides a great fear of humans. When one tries to approach, fear often takes over. They can spit or try to intimidate to keep the human at a distance. These are not acts of aggression, but of defense. Behind these behaviors hide two cats deeply afraid, who have probably never known gentleness or have lived through difficult experiences. The shelter unfortunately is not the ideal place to help them progress. In a cage, with the noises, the smells, and the constant passage, it is very difficult for them to relax and start trusting. Ushka and Urwen will need a calm environment, with no particular expectations, where they can observe, understand that they are safe, and progress at their own pace. Perhaps the path will be long. Perhaps the first steps will seem small. But for the right person, who will see beyond their fear, every progress will be an immense victory. Today, more than an adoption, Ushka and Urwen are searching for a chance. A chance to discover that a life with humans can also rhyme with patience, respect, and kindness.

About Ushka & Urwen

What life with Ushka & Urwen looks like

Ushka & Urwen is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Arche de Noé Brest in France.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ushka & Urwen, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ushka & Urwen?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Arche de Noé Brest handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ushka & Urwen on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ushka & Urwen if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Arche de Noé Brest will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ushka & Urwen already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ushka & Urwen isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Arche de Noé Brest early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ushka & Urwen and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
