Adopt Valnøtt

Cockatiel · Female · Senior · 9 years

Hi! My name is Valnøtt (Walnut). I don't know exactly how old I am, but I'm young at heart. I was found outside after being on my own for some time. The big world was scary for me, and when found, I was tired and affected by what I'd been through. I need time to learn that humans aren't dangerous. I've come far and can now eat from my foster mom's hand, but I still prefer some distance at my own pace. I live with three other cockatiels. When they fly to the sofa with the foster family, I follow excitedly and want to do the same. Someday I'll feel safe enough to try. Foster mom says I'm wise, observant, and quite aware of my place in the flock. In the cage, I'm the boss, and though I can be dominant, it works fine. The other birds groom and care for me, making me feel like a little queen. I get stressed easily, so training happens at a calm pace. Having adults and children around gives me important practice, and I become braver each day.

Hei!

About Valnøtt

What life with Valnøtt looks like

Valnøtt is a large senior cockatiel rabbit waiting at Dyrebeskyttelsen Oslo in Oslo.

Rabbits are social animals — most shelters recommend adopting them in bonded pairs rather than alone. They need fresh hay daily, several hours of out-of-cage time, and rabbit-safe spaces to explore. They live eight to twelve years, longer than many people expect.

Note from the shelter: Requires patient socialization and stress-free environment due to previous trauma from being found outdoors

🇳🇴Adopting from Norway

Norwegian rescues require thorough background checks. Animals leave with a Nordic pet passport and full vetting. Norway is outside the EU so import rules differ slightly — TRACES applies.

Frequently asked

Adopting Valnøtt, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Valnøtt?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dyrebeskyttelsen Oslo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Valnøtt on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Valnøtt if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dyrebeskyttelsen Oslo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Valnøtt already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most rabbits on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Valnøtt isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dyrebeskyttelsen Oslo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Valnøtt and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NO). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
