Venus &#8211

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Venus, an approximately one-year-old female dog (as of April 2025), came into the care of the animal welfare workers at El Buen Amigo when she was six months old. At that time, the young female dog had several fractures and spent three months in the animal clinic, where she underwent surgery and therapy. The treatments there worked wonders: Venus is now fit and pain-free. She grows without any problems, loves to play, is curious, open-minded, and very cuddly. Venus is now searching for a loving home, ideally one with few stairs, as her bones are still healing and she is still growing. A garden would be particularly advantageous for her, not only due to her past but also because our handsome and athletic Mastin-Blood has, and thus counts among the herding guardian dogs. The HSH breeds are known for their loyalty and protective instincts. The Mastín Español is no exception, but he tends to be more cool and cuddly compared to his osteuropäische relatives, even though he will unconditionally go through fire for his family – and guests are not always a source of amusement (in Venus’s case, however, guests fall under “leisure activities,” and she is happy to make new friends). Venus is still young and could become more self-assured if she has her own home, which is why we want to emphasize that herding guardian dogs bark – they bark deeply and beautifully and never without reason, but they are loud and vigilant (even though one might not notice that from the half-asleep fur mountain). Neighbors should therefore have understanding or even be glad that a new sheriff has arrived in town. Our XL-knutschkugeln need consistent but loving training and ample physical and mental stimulation. It is important that future owners understand the responsibilities and needs of a herding guardian dog and are prepared to meet them. This includes giving dogs like Venus enough space and freedom to act according to their nature. Venus is a wonderful companion who has a lot of love and affection to give. With her curious and open-minded nature, she will surely win the hearts of her new family. If you can provide a home with a garden and are prepared to meet the challenges and special needs of a herding guardian dog, then Venus could soon become your new best friend!.

About Venus &#8211

What life with Venus &#8211 looks like

Venus &#8211 is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Venus &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Venus &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Venus &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Venus &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Venus &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Venus &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Venus &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
