Vicky

German Shepherd · Female · Young · 3 years

I’m Vicky, a friendly, cuddly dog who longs more than anything to finally find a forever home. Here’s the story: Unfortunately, my humans could no longer care for me due to a change of residence. Life at the animal shelter is really taking its toll on me—I feel overwhelmed and stressed here, surrounded by constant stimuli. I know basic commands and am a wonderful companion who thoroughly enjoys being close to her people. Cuddling is one of my favorite activities. However, when we’re out and about, I still pull quite a bit on the leash. That’s why I’m looking for people who have patience and are willing to work with me on this issue. Right now, unfortunately, being left alone is still very difficult for me. When I’m by myself, I get extremely stressed and can even become destructive in the process. So this will need to be built up gradually, with lots of patience and small steps at a time. With male dogs, I’m generally compatible—if there’s mutual affection. But in my own home, I’d prefer to be the only four-legged member and have all of my humans’ attention focused solely on me. I’d love a calm home on the outskirts of town or in the countryside, where I won’t be constantly bombarded by external stimuli. My new people should have plenty of time for me and be ready to practice relaxed leash walking and learning to stay alone with me. Children are welcome in my new family—but they should already be at an adolescent age. Would you like to get to know me? If you’d like to give a lovable, affectionate dog a second chance, I’d be thrilled to meet you!

DE·Show original

About Vicky

What life with Vicky looks like

Vicky is a large young adult german shepherd dog waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Vicky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Vicky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Vicky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Vicky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Vicky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Vicky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Vicky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
