Vincent

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Vincent came to our animal shelter on June 29 as a stray dog. He was found alone on Römerstraße the day before and has not been reported missing so far. Unfortunately, we’ve also received no clues about his origins. He’s an unneutered male dog who was initially somewhat wary of strangers but generally gets along well with other dogs (though he doesn’t get along so well with unneutered males of similar age—of course, this varies depending on individual temperament). He enjoys riding in the car. Vincent is quite food-motivated, knows a few commands, and is very gentle and affectionate toward his primary caregivers. He responds well to people who have a clear plan and are consistent in their approach—he’s an eager learner. We’re currently working on leash manners and staying close to people. Vincent tends to protect his humans and is quite territorial. He’ll bark at strangers and, if necessary, even confront them—but then he needs help from his caregivers and ultimately feels overwhelmed by the task he’s chosen for himself. He’s happy when his human takes responsibility away from him and consistently puts him “in the second row.” Vincent is medium-sized and weighs around 20 kg; more photos will follow. We’d appreciate any information about his background, as well as interest from people who’d like to welcome Vincent into their lives. We’re looking for experienced dog owners who can provide him with security and stability and continue working on his training. Children shouldn’t live in the household; we can check his behavior toward cats and small animals upon request. Back to sponsoring our animals

About Vincent

What life with Vincent looks like

Vincent is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Koblenz in Koblenz.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Vincent, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Vincent?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Koblenz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Vincent on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Vincent if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Koblenz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Vincent already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Vincent isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Koblenz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Vincent and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
