Adopt Vermittlungshilfe Gismo

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

A sensitive, clever mixed-breed male dog seeks an experienced, loving home. Name: Gismo Rasse: mixed breed (likely involving several breeds) Farbe: black and white Geboren: ca. 15.04.2018 Größe: medium Geschlecht: male, neutered Chip: yes (chip on the left side of the neck) Impfstatus: vaccination card present, last vaccination on 03.06.2025 Gesundheit: no known problems His history: Gismo was found as a puppy in Greece and came to Germany at about six months old through a placement agency. Originally, he was to be a companion for my father-in-law, who unfortunately passed away four years ago. Since then, Gismo has lived with us. Nature & Character: Gismo is a sensitive, intelligent, and eager-to-learn dog who builds a close bond with his people. He sits on command, gives high-five paws, and loves performing tricks when taught, showing he is very trainable. He loves: • hide-and-seek games / • fetch games / • small tasks and tricks / • quiet, clear structures He is attentive, finely tuned, and immediately picks up on moods. He can also be left alone for longer periods without issue, barking only at the doorbell or garbage pickup, showing he has a small watch-dog character. What he needs: We must be honest: Gismo does not get what he needs from us anymore. Our everyday lives lack the time to adequately mentally and physically stimulate him. Therefore, he often sleeps all day because he lacks mental stimulation. During walks, he has been stopping more frequently lately and does not want to continue walking. However, in the evening, without a leash, he runs completely problem-free, showing that he actually wants to be active but is currently unsettled or under-challenged. With a calm, clear, and loving guidance, he will definitely come back to life. Specialties: Gismo is generally a loving dog but very sensitive. If he no longer wants closeness or feels pressured, he has already bitten in a few situations (my husband, my daughter, once almost me too). We are convinced that this results from: • our lack of dog experience / • uncertainties in handling / • and under-stimulation. Gismo is not to blame – he simply reacts very sensitively to pressure or stress. Social behavior: Currently, he does not get along well with other dogs. This has developed after castration; previously, he enjoyed playing. Here, our uncertainty may play a significant role, as we often kept him away from other dogs out of fear. An experienced person can surely rebuild his social behavior positively. Wanted: A loving, dog-experienced home or a foster home that gives Gismo: • security / • clear guidance / • mental stimulation / • patience / • and understanding for his sensitivity. He needs people who can read him and show him that the world is not dangerous. In the right hands, Gismo can again become the wonderful, happy dog he is meant to be. Contact:.

Kontakt: Ingo Wandres, , Screenshot

About Vermittlungshilfe Gismo

What life with Vermittlungshilfe Gismo looks like

Vermittlungshilfe Gismo is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Kreistierheim Freudenstadt.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Vermittlungshilfe Gismo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Vermittlungshilfe Gismo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kreistierheim Freudenstadt handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Vermittlungshilfe Gismo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Vermittlungshilfe Gismo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kreistierheim Freudenstadt will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Vermittlungshilfe Gismo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Vermittlungshilfe Gismo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kreistierheim Freudenstadt early rather than rehoming privately; they know Vermittlungshilfe Gismo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
