Vermittlungshilfe Gismo

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

A sensitive, intelligent mixed breed dog is looking for an experienced, loving home. Name: Gismo Breed: Mixed (multiple breeds likely involved) Color: Black and white Born: approximately 04/15/2018 Size: medium Gender: Male, neutered Chip: yes (transponder on the left side of the neck) Vaccination status: Vaccination record available, last vaccination on 06/03/2025 Health: no known problems His story: Gismo was found as a puppy in Greece and came to Germany at about six months old through a placement agency. Originally, he was supposed to be a companion for my father-in-law, who unfortunately passed away four years ago. Since then, Gismo has been living with us. Temperament & Character: Gismo is a sensitive, intelligent and eager-to-learn dog who forms a close bond with his people. He sits on command, gives a paw, does high fives and loves performing tricks when taught, as he is very trainable. He loves: • Search games / • Retrieval games / • small tasks and tricks / • quiet, clear structures He is attentive, sensitive and notices moods immediately. He can be left alone for longer periods without problems and only barks at the doorbell or garbage collection, so he definitely has a little watch-dog character. What he needs: We must be honest: Gismo is not getting what he needs anymore. We lack the time in our daily routine to sufficiently mentally and physically challenge him. Therefore, he often sleeps all day because he lacks stimulation. Recently, he has been stopping more frequently during walks and doesn't want to keep walking. In the evenings, off-leash, he runs perfectly, which shows that he is actually active, but is currently unsettled or under-stimulated. With calm, clear and loving guidance, he will definitely blossom again. Special features: Gismo is generally a kind dog, but very sensitive. In a few situations, he has already snapped or bitten (my husband, my daughter, almost me once) when he didn't want closeness or felt pressured. We are convinced that this results from: • our lack of dog experience / • uncertainties in handling / • and insufficient stimulation. Gismo is not to blame - he simply reacts very sensitively to pressure or stress. Social behavior: Gismo currently does not get along well with other dogs. This developed after castration; previously he enjoyed playing. Again, our uncertainty may play a big role, as we have kept him away from other dogs out of fear. An experienced person can definitely rebuild his social behavior positively. Looking for: A loving, dog-experienced home or foster care for Gismo who can provide: • Security / • clear guidance / • stimulation / • patience / • and understanding of his sensitivity. He needs people who can read him and show him that the world is not dangerous. In the right hands, Gismo can become the wonderful, cheerful dog he really is. Contact: Ingo Wandres, , screenshot

Kontakt: Ingo Wandres, , Screenshot

About Vermittlungshilfe Gismo

What life with Vermittlungshilfe Gismo looks like

Vermittlungshilfe Gismo is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Kreistierheim Freudenstadt.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Vermittlungshilfe Gismo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Vermittlungshilfe Gismo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kreistierheim Freudenstadt handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Vermittlungshilfe Gismo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Vermittlungshilfe Gismo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kreistierheim Freudenstadt will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Vermittlungshilfe Gismo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Vermittlungshilfe Gismo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kreistierheim Freudenstadt early rather than rehoming privately; they know Vermittlungshilfe Gismo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
