Adopt Violeta

Podenco · Female · Young · 3 years

LEO Shelter Input 13 October 2025: Violeta is a young Podenco female of medium size. She came to the animal shelter after giving birth in a garage to several pups, mixtures of herself and the Bodeguero breed. She was a very loving mother, careful, caring, and even clean inside. It took a long time before she came to us on her own. She has never been aggressive but always ran away, she had little self-confidence. She had a calm whelping and all her pups were adopted. She temporarily lived in the shelter where there was also a cat, which she had no problems with. Then she came to a shelter where there were several other dogs, and her self-confidence grew there. She is obedient but still somewhat shy. She sometimes barks when she finds it exciting and reacts faster to men than to women, but her self-confidence continues to grow. As Violeta gains more confidence, we see her relax more and more. She eats well and is spoiled with both wet and dry food and treats. She has never broken anything indoors and sleeps peacefully through the night. During the day, she has an average energy level. She has always lived with other dogs in the animal shelter and in the shelter, and this always goes well. She has been in the animal shelter for 10 months now and has learned a lot. She walks well on a leash and knows the environment better and better, she knows where her safe haven is. A year ago, she underwent a blood test that showed no diseases. Violeta needs a gentle, loving, and patient approach. She likes to watch the cat from the tree first and her self-confidence must grow before you would let her loose in a large fenced garden. We have had our own problems with her not coming back inside when you called her while she was in the garden. Violeta will be a great addition to a Podenco lover. The person who knows how to deal with her will certainly be able to further grow her confidence and have a lot of fun with her. Don't forget that she came to us as a young girl and was probably pregnant for the first time, she has experienced a lot and it takes time to process that. She is ready for a home of her own and to go on this journey.

About Violeta

What life with Violeta looks like

Violeta is a medium-sized young adult podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Violeta, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Violeta?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Violeta on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Violeta if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Violeta already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Violeta isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Violeta and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
