Wafer

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

Wafer is a beautiful hunting dog mix who has been struggling to escape his past since arriving at Nile Shelter at about one year old. He has a thick coat that helps him endure the loud shelter life, but he cannot tolerate being confined to a crate. The enclosure takes the breath away from this sensitive and cautious soul. Wafer needs to have a clear view of his surroundings. He instinctively seeks a safe position from which he can meticulously observe his entire environment. This is how he finds the security he needs in a world that seems suspicious to him. The potential in this sensitive dog is evident in his interactions with his dedicated caregiver. He has built trust with her and shows no fear, no shyness, and full affection towards her. Wafer wants to trust - he just needs the right people for that. For Wafer's new home, two important points must be considered: he is very possessive about his food. Therefore, he cannot be fed with other dogs. His meals must be taken in separate areas. We also wish for him a rural, quiet home with dog-experienced people who can read his body language and give him the necessary structure and security without pressuring him. He is compatible with other dogs depending on their sympathy and dominance, he likes female dogs, and a confident first dog would certainly make his arrival easier. If you have questions about our protégés or would like to offer WAFER a place as a family member in a foster home or final home, please contact: . You will then receive an email with our general information on the placement process or foster care activities and our self-assessment form.

DE·Show original

About Wafer

What life with Wafer looks like

Wafer is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at SardinienHunde e.V. in Germany.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Wafer, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Wafer?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SardinienHunde e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Wafer on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Wafer if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SardinienHunde e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Wafer already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Wafer isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SardinienHunde e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Wafer and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
