Wally

Male

Wally is a male cat who came to the shelter as a stray. He has had to undergo veterinary examinations and treatments, which he is not particularly fond of. As a very independent cat, he is not used to human interaction and finds it difficult to accept being touched, held, or examined. What he does know is that he longs for freedom. He misses being able to decide where he lies down, where he goes, and when he wants to be alone. He yearns to be outdoors, observe his surroundings, and live his own little cat life. He is not looking for a traditional home with a cozy spot on the couch. Instead, he dreams of a beautiful farm yard where he can enjoy his freedom after a period of adjustment. A place where he is well cared for, has a safe and dry retreat, and people who care for him without expecting him to become a lap cat. Perhaps over time he will learn that humans are not so bad. Perhaps he will remain Wally - an independent cat who loves his freedom, likes to go his own way, and controls his interactions with humans. Maybe there is a farm somewhere where a cat like him can find a place?

DE·Show original

About Wally

What life with Wally looks like

Wally is a large adult cat waiting at Tierheim Montabaur in Montabaur.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Wally, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Wally?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Montabaur handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Wally on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Wally if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Montabaur will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Wally already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Wally isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Montabaur early rather than rehoming privately; they know Wally and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
