Walter

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

"What's wrong with Walter?" (What's the matter with Walter?), you might wonder when you see the funny and friendly male dogs in the animal shelter and don't understand why this fantastic dog isn't instead lying on a couch and playing with a whole bunch of children in a garden. Well, everything is fine with Walter. He came to the animal shelter in 2015 together with his siblings - at that time he was still a little fluffy bundle and had to be fed with a bottle every few hours by the committed animal protectors. The puppies grew bigger and stronger, and one after another left wagging their tails alongside a happy person the world of cages... only Walter stayed behind at that time. But several months later, the charming Poodle mix could also pass through the gate with a kind man. Then came the economic crisis, and Walter's owner lost everything - job and apartment - and finally had to part with his best friend to seek his fortune in the world. Walter was back in the animal shelter. His sunny disposition has not prevented our friendly gentleman. Walter plays and runs around with the other dogs, supports the volunteers as best as he can when they come to feed and clean, he is happy to see every visitor and shows his very best side, but so far no one has been found who wants to give the six-year-old (as of 08/2021) bundle of energy a new home. We would like to change that with your help! Walter is a high-energy playmobile, he likes being outside and explores the world with his friends. Children, cats, visitors, all that Walter thinks is great and he can also be convinced of a cozy evening on the couch. Walter knows life in the house, he is playful, athletic, and clingy... it should be easy to find a new dog bed for him. Please don't overlook this great guy in the best age!

“What’s wrong with Walter?”

About Walter

What life with Walter looks like

Walter is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Walter, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Walter?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Walter on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Walter if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Walter already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Walter isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Walter and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
