Adopt Wanda

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Friendly, curious, open-minded. Majestic, beautiful and just barely escaped death. This is Wanda. Wanda is a real beauty: At about 3 years old, 57 cm at the shoulder and 25 kg, she is a majestic female dog. Her coat has a structure similar to that of a shepherd dog and shines in a warm beige with white markings. But it is above all her gaze that immediately captures you. In mid-November, we received an emergency call that left us breathless. Wanda was severely attacked by other dogs in Klein-Smilla. A brave resident intervened and managed to protect the seriously injured female dog, but could not transport her herself. Our colleague rushed there immediately, secured Wanda and brought her as quickly as possible to the veterinary clinic. Wanda had to be operated on immediately and remained in the hospital for two days. The bite wounds were deep and the risk of infection high. Without this quick intervention, Wanda would not have survived. Today, some time later, it seems like a miracle. Wanda has almost fully recovered physically! Her wounds have healed well. What particularly touches us is her character. Despite the pain, she was a model patient in the clinic. And most importantly: Wanda loves humans very much! She has not lost her trust in us bipeds and enjoys affection. Due to the traumatic incident, we do not yet know how Wanda will react to other dogs. We are currently cautiously testing whether she has developed fears or problems with social behavior due to the biting. Therefore, we are looking for people who are patient and can give her security. Wanda has won the fight for survival. Now, fortunately, she only needs a home of her own. All are vaccinated, microchipped and have an EU certificate. They are checked for Mediterranean diseases according to their age. See the information on our homepage for details. Every dog that is placed makes room for a new dog from the street, who must live in hunger and emaciated conditions.

AUFENTHALTSORT

About Wanda

What life with Wanda looks like

Wanda is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. in Greece.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇷Adopting from Greece

Greek shelters often partner with Northern European rescue groups for placements. Animals are sterilized, vaccinated, and chipped before adoption. Fees vary widely depending on whether the shelter is municipal or NGO-run.

Frequently asked

Adopting Wanda, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Wanda?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Wanda on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Wanda if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Wanda already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Wanda isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Wanda and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
