Werner

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Vaccinations + rabies Werner is looking for his people Werner lives in 45899 Gelsenkirchen, is 50 cm tall, weighs 26 kilos, and has been chemically neutered since the end of March with a hormone chip Werner is looking for his forever home Werner is a young male dog who celebrated his first birthday in March. He originally came from animal welfare in Bosnia and has lived in Germany since August. Since September, he has been in his current family. There is likely a bracken or bracken mix in him – accordingly, Werner brings a lot of energy, curiosity, and work ethic. He is neutered (by hormone chip), fully vaccinated, recently dewormed, healthy, and fit. Food intolerances are not known. Character-wise, Werner is a friendly, lively, and energetic dog. He loves to be active, learn new things, and be out and about with his people. He can also be a bit cheeky at times and occasionally tests his boundaries. However, he has already very well accepted the first rules and structures and consistently applies them in everyday life. Currently, Werner regularly attends dog training classes and shows a very eager and cooperative attitude. He especially enjoys being in the woods, where he can run and use his nose. At the moment, he is still led on a lead. But after sufficient physical and mental exertion, Werner can also relax wonderfully and snuggle up with his people. Werner is a sporty and eager-to-learn dog who could be well suited for dog sports or other joint activities. He looks forward to people who enjoy challenging him physically and mentally and being active with him. In direct contact with other dogs, Werner is friendly and socially compatible. One of his current projects is the lead reactivity: When he sees other dogs, he sometimes barks while on the lead. However, if he can make contact, he is friendly and compatible. This behavior is being worked on intensively, and he is making good progress. He is also well guided and corrected. Currently, the alone time is being trained. At the moment, Werner can already stay alone for about an hour. With more practice and patience, this should expand significantly. Driving is no problem for Werner. He travels relaxed in his box in the trunk and masters long drives completely without fuss. New environments initially unsettle him a little. He needs some time to settle in and gain trust. Once he has accepted a place as safe and familiar, he can relax and unwind there wonderfully. For Werner, we are looking for active, dog-experienced people who enjoy continuing to work with a young dog and exploring the world together. Ideally, he should not have to be alone for many hours every day. People who are enthusiastic about movement, training, joint activities, and a close bond are sought. Werner is a really great dog with great potential. He brings everything with him to become an excellent companion: friendliness, eagerness to learn, intelligence, and enthusiasm for life. Anyone who is ready to accompany him on his journey will get a faithful companion who brings joy every day. For serious interest, we look forward to a message and would be happy to tell you more about Werner.

About Werner

What life with Werner looks like

Werner is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ankerhunde e.V. in Novi Grad.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇦Adopting from Bosnia and Herzegovina

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting Werner, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Werner?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ankerhunde e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Werner on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Werner if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ankerhunde e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Werner already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Werner isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ankerhunde e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Werner and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
