Westa

Female · Senior · 14 years

Westa is a very poor female dog. She spent her whole life confined with several dogs on an abandoned property from which she was rescued through intervention. Neglected, sad, and now disoriented and scared by the noise at the animal shelter. She lived in horrific conditions and it was a person who caused the female dog to be distrustful, withdrawn, and prefer to keep her distance. Westa has been living in a kennel outside of Warsaw since May 2024. We gave her some time to get used to the new conditions and we have confirmed what kind of home we are looking for. It definitely must be a home in a very quiet area, preferably on the outskirts or outside the city. A house with a garden, where the fencing is very well secured, so that Westa can walk freely around it. The female dog has spinal degeneration, so walking on stairs and slippery surfaces does not suit her. She communicates very well with the pack and benefits from the company of calm and stable dogs, from which Westa learns about relationships with people and gains confidence. In the new home, Westa should join a dog pack. She is still shy and delicate, she cannot be allowed to hide in a corner, as that is where she feels safest and where she would spend time willingly. She needs her space, but should not be left alone and needs help when a person sometimes makes decisions for her and leads her. Westa felt very bad at the animal shelter and it is clear that she is calmer and more satisfied in these conditions. She is an individualist and prefers to walk her own path and maintain distance, but daily life with people really helps her. ------ Westa receives medication for her thyroid and a heart supplement.

Westa to bardzo biedna suczka. Całe życie spędziła zamknięta wraz z kilkunastoma psami na opuszczonej posesji skąd została odebrana interwencyjnie. Zaniedbana, smutna a u nas w schronisku zdezorientowana i wystraszona hałasem. W nowym domu Westa powinna dołączyć do psiaka.

About Westa

What life with Westa looks like

Westa is a medium-sized senior dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Spinal degeneration, thyroid medication, heart supplement

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Westa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Westa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Westa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Westa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Westa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Westa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Westa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
