Wika

Female · Adult · 5 years

Wika. Small female dog at a large animal shelter... Wika comes from a Mazovian forest - she was wandering through villages looking for food and shelter, then when she was caught, she spent a year at an animal shelter in Józefów. It was there that she took her first steps alongside humans, made friends with dogs, and tried to cope with the first challenges that civilization presents to a small female dog from the forest... After a year, someone decided to "give her a chance" and dropped her off at our animal shelter - among five hundred dogs, at the end of the line for a home, because Wika is of a breed of dogs that don't come running to hands, don't beg to be noticed and inevitably have to seek out that longed-for chance by themselves, which is why she came here. Despite such complicated turns of fate that brought her to us, Wika keeps her composure, tries to be brave, and her excellent social skills have quickly won her dog friends, respect and a position worthy of a female dog leader. It's clear that she's a dog individualist - basically confident, having her own opinion, although due to finding herself in unfriendly circumstances, she doesn't immediately reveal all her qualities. It's also clear that she lacks space, freedom and an atmosphere conducive to returning to balance - such miracles only happen at home. That's why if you have a house with a garden and a dog or a female dog who needs a calm companion, think about Wika. You will certainly need your patience and a little experience in caring for an outgoing dog, but progress, successes and the feeling that you saved a dog in great need are guaranteed, and at the same time your dog or female dog will gain a really nice companion! Wika. To tam stawiała pierwsze kroki u boku człowieka, tam nawiązała przyjaźnie z psami i tam starała się sprostać pierwszym wyzwaniom, jakie stawia cywilizacja przed małą suczką spod lasu… Dlatego jeśli masz dom z ogrodem i miłego psa/suczkę, której brakuje statecznej suni do towarzystwa, pomyśl o Wice. About Wika

What life with Wika looks like

Wika is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Needs patience and experienced owner due to withdrawn nature from forest background

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Wika, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Wika?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Wika on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Wika if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Wika already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Wika isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Wika and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
