Adopt Wika

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 20 years

Wika is a large but gentle female dog with honey-colored eyes that seem painted. Wika was found in a city near Baeza. No one knows where she came from or the path she took into the city. Given her size, Wika naturally stands out, but she was not immediately brought to the animal shelter. Even in Spain, there are kind-hearted people, and some of them cared about Wika's fate. They fed Wika and even tried to bring her to safety. However, Wika did not trust everyone and made it difficult for potential rescuers. But the kind-hearted people stayed committed and eventually managed to bring Wika to the animal shelter. Now, Wika waits at the shelter for the chance to find a loving family that will not only take her into their home but also into their hearts. Wika has pretty much everything one could wish for in a dog. Wika is simply friendly and has a wonderful balanced personality. She is not hyper or full of pent-up energy; quite the opposite: Wika is simply elegant and walks on a leash as if she had gone through hundreds of training exercises. Wika knows how to behave in any given situation from the start. At the animal shelter, Wika has already formed many friendships with her fellow animals and makes the most of every day she spends there, waiting to be with her own family. Wika also enjoys going for walks with the volunteers and loves to please the people at the end of the leash. Wika is perfect for a family, especially one with already dog-experienced, steady children. Wika would of course be very happy with a home with a well-fenced garden where she could also lie in the grass or nap in the sun. The dog crate should be a bit larger so that Wika can stretch out properly. Wika also gets along well with other well-socialized dogs, so a single-dog home would not be a problem. In her future life, Wika is also happy to be an individual princess. The most important thing for her is the connection to her people, who of course will bring a lot of time to spend with the big dog. Since it cannot be ruled out that Wika also has some herding dog genes, her heart people should be prepared and know what to expect. A few courses or hours in a good dog training class or with a good dog trainer would certainly be something Wika would enjoy, because one never stops learning – especially when in the learning phase. © 2006-2024 by animal welfare association Europa e.V.

© 2006-2024 by Tierschutzverein Europa e.V. - All rights reserved

About Wika

What life with Wika looks like

Wika is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Wika, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Wika?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Wika on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Wika if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Wika already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Wika isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Wika and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
