Willem

Male · Young · 3 years

This is Willem! A big softie who doesn't know his own strength. Willem is incredibly soft-spoken and loyal to his owner. Willem loves attention, plays with the ball with conviction, and enjoys a good walk. During walks, Willem likes to use his nose. Sometimes you have to help him remember that you also walk. On the leash, Willem sometimes runs a bit too hard and his tension level isn't too high. With a food reward, he is easy to train. Willem came to us with limited basic knowledge. He is familiar with the command 'sit' and is well-mannered. When Willem meets his own kind, he can react fiercely. This is shown in barking and wanting to go to the other. It is important that a new owner is firmly grounded and has some knowledge of his breed or similar breeds. We see daily progress in Willem's knowledge and how the walks are going. What we are looking for for Willem? The expectation is that a stable and quiet household will benefit Willem on all levels. He will benefit from an owner who likes to train and spend time with him. Additionally, Willem, with his sturdy build and healthy dose of energy, needs space both inside and outside the house. We place Willem in a household without other animals of his kind. Willem can be placed with children from the age of 12.

NL·Show original

Ga terug

About Willem

What life with Willem looks like

Willem is a medium-sized young adult dog waiting at Dierentehuis Arnhem in Netherlands.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Willem, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Willem?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierentehuis Arnhem handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Willem on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Willem if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierentehuis Arnhem will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Willem already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Willem isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierentehuis Arnhem early rather than rehoming privately; they know Willem and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
