William

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 3 years

William came to Arca Huelva last year, a friendly, calm charmer with funny cow spots and sensitive round eyes at just six months old - this is how our friends in Andalusia found him (thank goodness before the all-pervasive state dog catchers). Our big baby already won over many helpers in the animal shelter, but unfortunately no one came by to take the wonderful mixed breed to a nice home. But maybe that's actually a big blessing for you? William is now exactly one year old (as of 12/2023), and with the onset of puberty, the chances of being adopted are not increasing - especially not if you don't have a home with loving people and don't yet know the rules of living with two-legged beings. Therefore, William was able to leave Andalusia for Germany in November 2023, where he moved into one of our reliable and experienced foster families to learn the basics of being a family dog. In his temporary home, our charm continues to impress with the same qualities he showed in the animal shelter. William is a quiet, attentive, gentle and very social dog who has easily integrated into his new pack. He respects other dogs and quickly makes friends with unfamiliar four-legged beings and also shows himself to be very nice and open towards house cats. People are generally friends for William, from the smallest to the largest and strongest, our snuggly bear has no prejudices - and apparently has not had any bad experiences so far. William is a large, strong mixed breed who can already boast a shoulder height of just under 60 cm. Since our gentle giants keep growing until their third year, it is expected that Williams' family will have to reckon with an end weight of 40 kg. Despite his size, he is a classic first-time dog. Our friendly William would like humorous people who are interested in having a four-legged companion by their side who is confident and social, loving and a perfect team player. William can be met in Birkenfeld and would be very happy to make your acquaintance. If you then believe that you need a William by your side and if you have enough space, time, patience and love as well as enough humor to enjoy life with a young dog of Williams' size - well, then we look forward to hearing from you.

DE·Show original

About William

What life with William looks like

William is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting William, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about William?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw William on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt William if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is William already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if William isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know William and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
