Willie

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

When we first saw Willy, he was in a cage at the municipal shelter in Tripoli, just a tiny baby, hungry and incredibly scared. You couldn’t help but feel for him. And when we fed him for the first time, we felt it even more, because he threw himself onto the food, practically inside a bowl almost his size, trembling at the presence of the adult dog sharing his cage, barking to protect the food he had been deprived of for so long. He came to us, grew up, and went through a phase where he became a chubby, clumsy puppy. For a while, it even seemed like he had lost a bit of his charm, as if his beautiful eyes had grown smaller and some of his sweetness and softness had faded. But then he changed again, and now he looks much more like the little puppy he was when he first arrived. His sweet eyes once again resemble those he had as a baby, his face shines, and he is truly beautiful. At the shelter, he goes out, plays with the other dogs, and is full of energy and joy. He may be a little hesitant at first with people he doesn’t know, but he understands good intentions and soon connects and cooperates. Today, our Willy is a sweet, gentle, happy, and kind dog. He is tall, slender, handsome, and still very young. He has his whole life ahead of him to live and enjoy all the things he missed out on. He is vaccinated, neutered, and healthy, and he is looking for his forever home.

About Willie

What life with Willie looks like

Willie is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Save a Greek Stray in Metsovo.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇷Adopting from Greece

Greek shelters often partner with Northern European rescue groups for placements. Animals are sterilized, vaccinated, and chipped before adoption. Fees vary widely depending on whether the shelter is municipal or NGO-run.

Frequently asked

Adopting Willie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Willie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Save a Greek Stray handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Willie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Willie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Save a Greek Stray will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Willie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Willie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Save a Greek Stray early rather than rehoming privately; they know Willie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
