Willy

Male · Adult · 6 years

Willy is an extraordinary dog who has suffered due to the mistakes of people he met at the beginning of his life. He was taken away from his mother too early, and the first months of his life were spent locked up in an apartment - first in quarantine between vaccinations, then treatment for kennel cough. Eventually, Willy went out for his first walk at about 5 months old, and the world he saw overwhelmed him. How could it be otherwise? Taken from a safe place with his mother, moved to a safe apartment, he didn't expect what might be outside... During the period when puppies learn the most, he was locked inside four walls, and his basic needs weren't met - he didn't explore, didn't get to know the world, didn't interact with dogs. The previous caretaker couldn't cope with the situation and at several months old, Willy was surrendered to the animal shelter. The beginning in the animal shelter was difficult, but the transformation Willy has undergone is impressive even for long-term volunteers. Willy has learned to walk with dogs and communicates beautifully with them, peacefully passing by the majority of dogs on walks. He used to react aggressively to quickly moving objects, now he can easily avoid them. The biggest fear remains in him towards people, however, those he knows, he loves with all his heart. He is a cheerful, smart, and affectionate puppy who can't wait to find his own home for the rest of his life. A few months ago, he went on a trip to the city - he handled a busy street well, calmly passing pedestrians, both big and small, dogs and cars. He behaved like a model walker, and no one would have guessed that this was a dog who once attacked "everything." He passed the test perfectly! The future caregiver will gain a wonderful companion, a compact, funny, mischievous puppy, with whom you can learn life together. Nothing connects people like overcoming difficulties together, and Willy shows this to his volunteers every day. However, it should be remembered that Willy missed the most important learning period of his life, and therefore is a dog who sometimes reacts impulsively. He needs understanding, calmness, and a sense of security. We know that in the home he came from, he also exhibited other behavioral problems, such as resource guarding, so he should live in a house or apartment where a safe space can be arranged for him. We do not recommend Willy for a home with children, as he has previously bitten. With an experienced caretaker, there is a chance he could get along with another dog. We don't know his relationship with other animals. We encourage contact, Willy deserves another chance! Due to his more demanding character, Willy will need a greater number of introductory walks than specified in the adoption procedure, as well as a home visit.

PL·Show original

Potrzebuje zrozumienia, spokoju i poczucia bezpieczeństwa. About Willy

What life with Willy looks like

Willy is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Resource guarding, history of biting, requires behavioral management and safe space arrangement

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Willy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Willy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Willy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Willy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Willy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Willy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Willy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
