Adopt Wilma

Mixed Breed · Female

Description Our animal welfare workers report: Wilma loves people above all else! Sadly, with sheer desperation, Wilma clings to the leg of the animal rescuer with her slender front paws when she finally got to go outside for new photos. Wilma shows how much she longs for closeness and human affection, how much she would love to be an active, sporty female dog outside. The dogs in the private shelter in Caracal rarely get to be under the open sky, can’t soak up any sun rays, can’t sniff the grass, or let the wind blow around their noses; there is unfortunately no walk and hardly any run. It is a bleak accommodation for the four-legged ones. Wilma leans her head against the belly of the animal rescuer, doesn’t want to leave her side, and constantly nuzzles her with her snout, begging to be taken – it breaks the heart to see how much Wilma suffers, she wants to accompany her people. With great effort, the animal rescuer separates Wilma’s front legs from her, which elicits a desperate howl from her, and Wilma keeps jumping up at her. In the first half of 2023, Wilma was rescued from the city’s lethal station and has been waiting at the animal shelter for her luck, but she suffers greatly there. 💔 Without her own dog bed, without a stable primary caregiver, without the feeling of finally arriving. Wilma is described as very people-oriented and active. The lively and agile female dog loves movement, jumps happily, and needs a home where she can run around – ideal for active people or families. The pretty snout-seeker craves closeness, affection, and attention – and in return, she gives her whole heart! Wilma gets along well with larger male dogs – she likes smaller dogs and cats, however.

About Wilma

What life with Wilma looks like

Wilma is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Wilma, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Wilma?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Wilma on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Wilma if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Wilma already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Wilma isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Wilma and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
