Wilma

Mixed Breed · Female

Wilma is a 12-year-old spayed former stray cat who has likely spent her life without much human interaction. She is a very shy, reserved, and easily unsettled female cat who prefers to observe new situations from a safe distance. When interacting with other cats, Wilma displays calm, defensive behavior. She does not seek conflict, but rather avoids other cats when she feels uncertain. A home with a similarly calm, social cat would be possible - but only if the other cat gives her enough space and does not pressure her. We are looking for a quiet, patient home for Wilma where her sensitive nature is respected. People who do not expect quick progress and give her the freedom to open up at her own pace would be ideal. A household without much noise and without young children would greatly help her feel safer. Wilma is a cat that needs to be accompanied with sensitivity, calmness, and understanding. She does not need pressure, but a place where she can simply be - and perhaps eventually gain trust. We hope for people who can give her exactly this chance.

DE·Show original

About Wilma

What life with Wilma looks like

Wilma is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Landestierschutzverein Steiermark in Graz.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Wilma, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Wilma?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Landestierschutzverein Steiermark handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Wilma on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Wilma if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Landestierschutzverein Steiermark will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Wilma already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Wilma isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Landestierschutzverein Steiermark early rather than rehoming privately; they know Wilma and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
