Adopt Wilma und Emil

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 6 years

The mismatched and sweet pair has been with us at our shelter since today and is waiting for interested parties :-) Wilma und Emil! Hello! We are Wilma (female, 6 years old, not neutered, rabbit) and Emil (1 year old, male miniature goat, neutered). We have lived in our wonderful home for some time now, in indoor housing with free roam. We ARE NOT CAGE-raised, but have been given our own room during the house renovation. Here we have toys, caves, castles, and litter boxes for our offspring. We are house-trained, hand-tamed, and child-friendly! We sometimes run around the house now and then. However, we don't go anywhere or nibble on anything. We receive fresh food in the form of vegetables and herbs, supplemented by high-quality dry food daily. We are both in perfect health, regularly checked by the vet, and have no health issues. Due to private circumstances, we are now searching for a new home together! We only want to go to loving hands and a home with space—not a cage! We gladly enjoy attention and cuddles. Children are welcome, and we have no problem with cats.

About Wilma und Emil

What life with Wilma und Emil looks like

Wilma und Emil is a adult mixed breed rabbit waiting at Tierheim Mayen in Mayen.

Rabbits are social animals — most shelters recommend adopting them in bonded pairs rather than alone. They need fresh hay daily, several hours of out-of-cage time, and rabbit-safe spaces to explore. They live eight to twelve years, longer than many people expect.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Wilma und Emil, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Wilma und Emil?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Mayen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Wilma und Emil on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Wilma und Emil if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Mayen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Wilma und Emil already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most rabbits on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Wilma und Emil isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Mayen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Wilma und Emil and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
