Adopt Winston

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Friendly, compatible, cautious, people-oriented. Update April 2026: Winston has settled well with his foster family and is showing himself to be a cautious but by no means fearful dog. New impressions he initially observes calmly and attentively. His foster mother is now greeted joyfully with a wagging tail. It's clearly noticeable how much he enjoys being with familiar people. He is a gentle and rather reserved dog, but can also show his fun-loving, playful side. Winston gets along very well with other dogs, so an existing first dog in his future home would be a great support for him. He really enjoys walks and already walks well on a leash. We wish Winston a rather quiet home in a rural area, as the turbulent city life would probably be too much for him. Winston can be visited and met in person. He is looking forward to finding his people. Nadja and Winston were brought to us with their mother Matka. Their mother was in poor condition and we didn't want to leave her on the street. All of them were very shy in the first days and hid when we came near them. The human seems to have left traces on their souls. Winston is still very unsure and does not trust humans. He allows himself to be touched and even picked up, but he doesn't enjoy it. He has no problems at all with other dogs and then really comes out of his shell. He runs, plays and can be very lively then. He is together with other dogs in the guesthouse and learns to live in the house there. He even reports himself already and hasn't made a mess in the house so far at night. It is practiced daily so that he gets used to it and gains more confidence. A home with dog experience, patience and understanding with a confident first dog would be ideal for Winston. They are all vaccinated, microchipped and have an EU passport. They are checked for Mediterranean diseases according to their age. See information on our homepage. Every dog placed makes room for a new dog from the street who has to live in hunger and emaciation. LOCATION OF STAY

AUFENTHALTSORT

About Winston

What life with Winston looks like

Winston is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. in Greece.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇷Adopting from Greece

Greek shelters often partner with Northern European rescue groups for placements. Animals are sterilized, vaccinated, and chipped before adoption. Fees vary widely depending on whether the shelter is municipal or NGO-run.

Frequently asked

Adopting Winston, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Winston?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Winston on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Winston if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Winston already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Winston isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Winston and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
