Wolle

German Shepherd · Male · Senior · 11 years

Wolle has been with us for several weeks now and is almost impossible to leave. In everyday life, he is absolutely cool, knows his place, and can be sent to the couch at any time. On our large premises, he can move freely when we are at home and can also be called back. He has now gotten along with the cats, so he no longer needed a muzzle at night! Recently, some chickens have also joined us, and they are absolutely no problem for him, the cool sock :). Through the hustle and bustle on our construction site, Wolle has already been "hardened" regarding visitors. Nevertheless, he always wears a muzzle for safety when there are strangers and also when friends are on the premises. We cycle with him 2-3 times a week to physically tire him out. Wolle has already managed excursions to Cologne and also handles dog encounters well. In short, we can only say that he is an absolute dream dog and does everything that is expected of him! He is incredibly calm and composed. If he barks or is unsure, he can be easily pulled out of the situation due to his sharp training by the animal shelter, and then he can continue calmly. We are happy that we found a dog that fits us perfectly, and we often wonder why he had to wait so long in the animal shelter. (But maybe it should be exactly like it is now :) Greetings from Wolle, Marie, and Basti Wolf Wolle is one of the three neglected Westerwler Cattle Dogs that were abandoned in the Eifel in November 2018. After a longer period of getting used to his new environment and lots of affection, Wolle now shows what is really in him: He is an intelligent and eager-to-learn male dog who enjoys praise and cuddles. He now masters basic commands and is well leash-trained. Wolle is vigilant and keeps an eye on everything happening in his surroundings. However, in some situations, he is still unsure, but he also displays the typical characteristics of an Old German Shepherd Dog: a protective instinct, determination, and the ability to act independently when, from his perspective, the situation is not under control. Therefore, he needs an experienced, confident owner who can handle him with sensitivity and consistency. He gets along well with other dogs; in the animal shelter, he lives with a small pack during the day. There should be no small children in his new home. Potential owners must come by frequently so that Wolle can build trust. If "the chemistry is right," he will prove to be a great companion who stands by his owner through thick and thin. An ideal new home would be a house with a large garden in the countryside.

About Wolle

What life with Wolle looks like

Wolle is a large senior german shepherd dog waiting at Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. in Remagen.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Wolle, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Wolle?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Wolle on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Wolle if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Wolle already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Wolle isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Wolle and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
