Xena

English Bulldog · Female · Puppy · 6 months

Xena is a beautiful young dog. She wants to be friends with everyone, and will jump up for a cuddle. She loves to play, and shows typical puppy behaviours such as jumping up and play-mouthing so any adopters should be understanding of how to manage this. She will need help settling into her new home, and her adopters should be with her most of the time at the start. This can slowly be built up to her being alone for up to 4 hours. She is not housetrained yet but with patience and training, she will get there! If you think Xena would fit into your family, don't forget to add her to your favourites! This gorgeous girl is Xena! She is approx 6 months old, and is a Bulldog cross. This little lady came to us as a stray, so we don't have much info on her past, but we can tell her future is going to be bright! She is a lovely, excitable puppy who is keen to start her new life soon. She will need help learning basic obedience, but she is very smart and loves her treats! She is a confident young pup and loves meeting new dog friends. She could live with other dogs following successful meets at the centre, and could live with dog savvy kids to grow up beside.

About Xena

What life with Xena looks like

Xena is a puppy/kitten english bulldog dog waiting at Dogs Trust Ballymena in Ballymena.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Xena, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Xena?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Ballymena handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Xena on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Xena if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Ballymena will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Xena already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Xena isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Ballymena early rather than rehoming privately; they know Xena and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
