Adopt Xena

Labrador Retriever · Female · Young · 1 year

15-05-26 Xena has come to us from a breeder and is now looking for a loving forever home where she can begin her new life. She is overwhelmed to find herself here and clearly hasn’t had much human interaction before, so she can be quite anxious about being handled at the moment. She is especially nervous when inside her kennel and will run away from you, however, once she is out of her kennel she begins to come out of her shell and starts to show her sweet nature. She is already trying so hard to be brave and while she isn’t ready to approach us just yet, she will wag her tail when she sees us. With time, patience and plenty of TLC, we think she will flourish in a home. Xena will be looking for a calm and quiet home where she can settle in at her own pace and slowly build her confidence. She would benefit from adopters who have experience with nervous dogs and will need another kind and confident resident dog in her new home to be her friend, take her under their wing and welcome her with open paws. We would consider a home with dog savvy older teenagers who can be patient and gentle with her. As Xena has never lived in a home before, her adopters will need to be patient and understanding while she learns all about home life and new skills such as house training. She is just starting to learn about walking on a lead and harness and will need continued support and practice as her confidence grows. With love, reassurance and time, Xena will blossom into a lovely companion. Could you offer this gentle girl the safe and loving home she needs? This dog can be homed with a resident dog.

About Xena

What life with Xena looks like

Xena is a young adult labrador retriever dog waiting at Many Tears Animal Rescue in Llanelli.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Xena, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Xena?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Many Tears Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Xena on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Xena if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Many Tears Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Xena already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Xena isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Many Tears Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Xena and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
