Adopt XLutz

Male · 3 years

The handsome XLutz has come to the animal shelter due to overloading by the owner. He has a leash aggression, but is not considered dangerous. Typical of the breed, the XL Bully has a healthy self-confidence and would like to determine where he goes. Foreign dogs on the leash are a thorn in the side of the little macho, and he would like to bark at them with inconsistent handling. Therefore, he is also accustomed to wearing a muzzle. Apart from that, he runs well on the leash. With people, XLutz is in himself a well-socialized and clingy fellow, but he likes to test his limits and can be very demanding and impolite in the process. Therefore, he can only be rehomed to an adult home with experienced owners without children. The handsome fellow needs clear guidance and must be made to understand that his bad behavior has no success prospects. He is incompatible with male dogs, while living together with female dogs works well with mutual sympathy. Currently, he lives with a female dog at our shelter, which is why we would also rehome him as a second dog. The existing female dog must be character-wise and physically up to him, as his play behavior is somewhat rougher Bully-type. We are looking for a quiet, ground-floor home with a garden for him. Other animals should not live in the household. Once XLutz has discussed status themes, he is a very attentive and people-oriented fellow with whom you can still have a lot of fun! Health care: Which vaccinations are necessary and what can I do to ensure my dog a long and healthy life? You can get an initial overview in this video. Feeding tips: Watch this video if you want to learn more about the right feeding for your dogs. The video is only meant to summarize the most important information. We are of course available for further information.

About XLutz

What life with XLutz looks like

XLutz is a large adult dog waiting at Tierheim Hannover in Hannover.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Must wear muzzle, requires leash restrictions, incompatible with male dogs, needs single-story home with garden

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting XLutz, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about XLutz?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Hannover handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw XLutz on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt XLutz if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Hannover will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is XLutz already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if XLutz isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Hannover early rather than rehoming privately; they know XLutz and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
