Yako

Mixed Breed Cat · Male · Adult · 9 years

Name Yako Breed: European domestic cat Gender: male, neutered Date of birth: approximately May 6, 2023 Approximate size: adult, medium-sized Location: Municipal Cat House under the care of the animal welfare association CanFlix & Ampare, Mora la Nova, Catalonia (Spain) Blood tests: FIV and FeLV negative (tested January 18, 2024) Yako arrived at the cat house with his little sister, who has already had great luck and been adopted. The tomcat, however, wasn’t so fortunate and grew up completely overlooked in the animal shelter—perhaps because of his color? People in Spain usually don’t favor tabby cats; they consider them too ordinary and not exotic enough. But to us, every one of his stripes makes him a unique cat! Yako is a bit shy, but he loves going on hunts with you! He’s a fantastic mouser—of course, only the plastic kind! We’re very sad that he no longer looks like a tiny kitten and therefore has extremely slim chances of being adopted within Spain. We hope this appeal will help find him a forever home or a foster home in Germany, making Yako’s big dream of having his own family come true. Yako lives together with Ozuna and Manolo. The three get along very well. He’s used to the company of other cats and could therefore be happily rehomed with an existing cat or tomcat. Or maybe there’s even room for Ozuna and Manolo too? 😉 Yako’s adoption coordinator, Verena Strobel, would be delighted to hear from you by phone, email, or WhatsApp. Yako will travel to his new life microchipped, vaccinated (rabies, Feligen, and Tricat Novum), dewormed, tested negative for FIV and FeLV, neutered, and equipped with an EU pet passport—just like all our cats!

About Yako

What life with Yako looks like

Yako is a medium-sized adult mixed breed cat cat waiting at Tierfreunde Europa e.V. in Simonswald.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Yako, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Yako?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierfreunde Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Yako on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Yako if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierfreunde Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Yako already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Yako isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierfreunde Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Yako and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
