Adopt Yama

Belgian Malinois · Female · Young · 3 years

Yama is a malinois who is struggling with her stay at the shelter, which is already two years long. Very endearing, Yama is very affectionate with the people who take care of her, whom she trusts. Yama needs a cuddly companion to comfort her in her kennel and helps her feel more secure. We are looking for a human who is athletic and dynamic, without young children, knowledgeable about the breed, and without other pets. A fenced-in yard is strongly recommended for Yama, who loves to let off steam. She is also, like many malinois, a true guardian and protector when she is outdoors in our parks or on a leash. She is very intelligent. She deserves to find the perfect home that will take her needs into account. This animal is not suitable for homes with young children. This animal needs to be the only pet in the home.

About Yama

What life with Yama looks like

Yama is a large young adult belgian malinois dog waiting at SRPA Veeweyde Brussels in Brussels.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Needs comfort items (toys) for security, struggling with shelter life for 2 years

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Yama, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Yama?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SRPA Veeweyde Brussels handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Yama on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Yama if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SRPA Veeweyde Brussels will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Yama already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Yama isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SRPA Veeweyde Brussels early rather than rehoming privately; they know Yama and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
